Communism is a form of government started by Karl Marx. In Communism, all property is public. Communism is a kind of socialism. People are payed based on how much they need and what their abilities are. During the 1950's, Joseph McCarthy began accusing famous people of being communist. During this time, the Cold War was happening and people were frightened. In similar fashion to the Salem villagers of the 1690's, people were scared and wanted someone to blame. Much like the Salem Witch Trials, McCarthy had little proof to support his claims. Similar to Abigail Williams, Senator Joseph McCarthy made false accusations and caused controversy. Today, only five countries in the world classify their government as Communist.
